PlusOne Music Review

PlusOne!? Not many people have heard of them, and I understand why. They are a Christian band that is never played on the radio. They sound like the Backstreet Boys mixed with N’Sync. Most of the students here don’t like N’Sync or Backstreet Boys, and I don’t either, but this band is amazing. Trust me, I should know. I have been to two of their concerts. I saw them at Six Flags Magic Mountain in September. I loved them so much, that I flew all the way to Georgia to see the same concert again. The members are Jason Perry, Nate Cole, Gabe Combs, Jeremy Mhire, and Nathan Walters.

Their music, besides being inspirational, is also cheery and upbeat. If pop culture doesn’t interest you, then maybe they are not for you. If you don’t appreciate the sounds of N’Sync or Backstreet Boys, but still enjoy listening to inspirational words, then this band is good for you. It all depends on what you are looking for in a song.

I found the CD by chance. I was reading a magazine one-day, and under the usual advertisements, was this CD. I bought it on a chance that it might be good. When I got it in the mail, I wasn’t too excited. After finally deciding to listen to the whole CD, I realized I was missing out on a lot. AMAZING! After going online and finding their website, I found out their upcoming tour was coming to Six Flags Magic Mountain in Valencia. I immediately reserved that night for them. I had a good time, and found out when the next concert was. The only Saturday that they were playing was November 3, in Georgia. A little too far, some may think. However, this trip was better than the first. I met all of them. Jason and Nate actually carried on a real conversation with me. They are all very, very sweet. They are anything but stuck up.

ESHS Freshman Marina Cary says, “I love PlusOne. They are like my favorite band!”

Their second CD is due out at the end of February. I hope that their second CD will be just as good, if not better, than the first.

The famous manager David Foster got them started on their first CD immediately, after hearing their amazing voices. Their first song that they performed in front of David Foster was “America, the Beautiful”. While they were producing their first CD, they gave a performance for the vice-president, who was Al Gore at the time. They sang, “America, the Beautiful”, and afterwards were able to meet him. That’s when the group realized they were a big deal, and they had reached their goal in becoming singers.

Their first CD, titled “The Promise” reflects the way they feel about their lives and the way they have been influenced to pursue a music career. The first song on the CD is titled “Written On My Heart”. This song is their hit song that went straight to the top of the charts. The third song on the CD is titled “The Promise”. Since this was the most inspirational song to them, they titled the CD after this song. Their second single, which was released to video immediately, was called “The Last Flight Out”. This video was shot while Jeremy, one of the band members, had a broken ankle. Even with their misfortune, the video still got great ratings. Their third, and last single on their debut album was titled, “God Is In This Place.” This video was shot right on the beaches of Malibu. My personal favorite song on the CD is, “Wherever You Are”. This is somewhat of a sad song because it is about a girlfriend who has passed away. It is also inspirational because they sing about how life goes on and you have to focus on the joys in life. The rest of the songs are equally as great. “My Life” is a little up beat and more of a dance song and “Be” is a little slower.

The CD is amazing, the guys are wonderful, and the music is definitely mind-blowing. This pretty much sums up PlusOne. They are, again, a great Christian Band who will steal your hearts in a single song. Their second tour will include ZoeGirl and other Christian artists.
