Together as One

It’s been a hectic year, and that was all the more reason to come together as one in 2002.  Together as One ’02 was the fourth annual New Years Eve celebration (rave) sponsored by Go Ventures and Insomniac Productions.  This year it was held at The LA Sports Arena.  In previous years, the Sports Arena teamed up with Coliseum to hold the massive event, but this year the Coliseum was used for a separate event.  Even though there was less space, people still found a way to relish in the excitement.  The capacity was a bit crowded, but not that bad.  There wasn’t even a line to get in.  But the LAPD were very present throughout the night.  Purses and bags were not allowed in for security reasons.  We suggest investigating any rave you’re interested in on the internet prior to attending.  There will usually be web sites listing restricted items, DJ lists, directions, and prices.  Some sites to try are www.newyearsevela.com ,

 www.insomniac-usa.com, and www.goventures.com.

Together as One offered five rooms of musical entertainment.  There was a world famous line up of DJs including Richard “Humpty” Vission and Derrick Carter.  There was a Hip-Hop room with full bar for anyone over twenty-one featuring DJ’s such as Ron D. Core, Double D, and Apx.  The Techno/Trance arena featured Mars and Jughead.  In the Jungle arena Lemon D, Lostboy and Slip n’ Slide spun the tables. The party also had Hardcore Techno and Turntable rooms, and the Giant Outdoor Village.  The Giant Outdoor Village was filled with Vendors such as Supa Dupa Gurl, selling anything from clothes to candy; there was even a portable tattoo and piercing parlor.  As always prices were a little high, tickets at the door were about $50 and a bottle of water was $3.

Everyone came together close to midnight waiting for the big moment.  There were accidentally two countdowns, a minute apart from each other.  Those who were lucky got two new years kisses!  To make the night even more memorable, artificial snow fell on us after the countdown.  And a couple small fireworks went off in the main arena to ring in the New Year.  The lights and visuals went well with the music and the countdown.

Together as One was a great new way to celebrate the new year.  Seeing people from all over the state dressed in their best, grooving to the music, and forgetting their troubles was uplifting.  Former ESHS student Holly Kobus said, “This was my first rave and I was really impressed with the light shows and the music.  There were so many cool people just looking to have a good time.  So we fit in well!”  Those ten hours of excitement, loud music, and great people ended in a great experience well worth the money.  So if you’re looking for something crazy and different next year, we’ll see you at Together as One.
