The word ‘prom’ makes many
smile at the memories created, and it also makes many rethink why they
spent so much money on only “one night,” as some parents like to refer
to it. Regardless of what rumors were heard about prom before the big
night, everyone experienced something completely different than what he or
she heard. And that is what makes prom such an amazing high school event. Limos, tuxedos, and hair appointments are just a couple components that make a prom. Whether you go all out or prefer not to waste your money, prom will always have its expenses. Tickets alone cost $80 and up and that’s not including all the extras. Transportation, attire, nail appointments, make-up appointments, and matching accessories, and all for what? For some, it is a night that they will never forget, and for many others, it is the most over-rated night.
This year’s prom, “Dreaming of You”, was at the Amada Plaza
and Gardens in Buena Park. This location was more spacious than last year’s which was
at the Hard Rock Café at Universal City Walk.
Even though there was more room, the dance floor was about the same
size as before, relatively small. This kept many people from even
attempting to dance. “ This
was the worst $90 I have ever spent,” says Senior John Garcia.
However, there was a karaoke room, where many attempted to sing, a
gambling room, and a large, open area with a water fountain in the center.
Even
though there were many things that could have been better about prom this
year, many had a good time. Junior Jackie Vo said, “I thought it
was a fun and exciting night and all of our hard work paid off. Plus, my
date was great!” Junior Loleena Ansari said, “It surpassed my
expectations.”
Food for this year’s prom included chicken and beef shish kabobs,
garlic potatoes, pasta with Alfredo sauce, bread sticks, and salad with a
variety of dressings. For
dessert there were things like carrot cake, fudge cake, brownies, and
chocolate covered strawberries. “
The potatoes were grub. Prom
was ok…if you like raves,” says Junior Logan Sharp. Most of the music played was either techno or music that
there was no possible way to dance to.
The DJ did play some rap and good dance music, but a majority was
the type of music where you go, “ Umm, how do I even dance to this?” You could always tell when one of these songs was played
because you could see dancers saunter off the dance floor with a confused
look on their faces.
Picture taking was another factor that frustrated people. The
attempt to put some order to this situation failed horribly and just made
everyone madder. When entering the prom, everyone was handed a specific
time to report to the designated picture taking rooms. But of course,
people did not follow their appointment time. People just randomly showed up and lines seemed to be even
longer than those from previous dances. |
