X-Box

As Christmas quickly approaches I ask myself, what is the most wanted gift for Christmas 2001?  Like years before, there has to be some toy or item that every kid and teen must have.  Examples of presents that were to die for in past years were the virtual pets, Razor Scooters, Pokemon, and game systems like Play Station 2.  This year, the new craze is the X Box.  It seems as if people everywhere are searching far and wide to get their hands on one.  Radio stations are even having contests to give them away and there are plenty of people who are participating.  So what exactly is so appealing about the X Box that adolescents feel they need one?

Video game lovers have been anticipating the arrival of the X Box for quite a while now.    Crowds of people lined up and some even camped out for nights just to be one of the first to receive the X Box when it arrived at 12:01 a.m. the morning of November 15.  Since it’s release, it is obvious that the X Box is the first gift on everyone’s Christmas list.  When compared with the GameCube, X Box was by far the favorite game system.  Even people that didn’t own either system, voted for the X Box.  The X Box is so popular that there aren’t any in stores now.   To get this game system you have to order it way in advance.

Some advantages of the X Box is that it has 3-D graphics and can even be used as a DVD player with the right equipment.  Controllers have built in “rumble” features to make playing more realistic and has, so far, the best graphics in game systems.  One of the many accessories is a life size realistic board with a controller that can be used in snow and skate boarding games that gives a feel of a virtual reality game.  To play car games there is yet another accessory that has a steering wheel and a gas pedal.  All of these accessories are moderately priced and can be found anywhere the X Box is sold.

The X Box made many new technological advances in hardware and software.  The main purpose of the X Box game system is to make everything realistic.  With the 3-D graphics and virtual reality accessories, the X Box definitely succeeds.  Kids and teens all over, now have the ability to have no reason to leave their house to have fun, they can just play a virtual reality game.  This just leaves us to wonder what new and improved electronic toys will be the most wanted gift of Christmas 2002.
