Astrology, in Greek, means the science of the stars. It is the
influence of stars on human behaviors, traits, and experiences. You can
find your daily, monthly, weekly, and yearly horoscopes in magazines,
newspapers, and on the Internet. Little do most people know, but astrology
has played a big part in many people’s lives. It actually played a role
in the life of one of our past presidents. After there was an
assassination attempt on former president Ronald Reagan, Mrs. Reagan
actually consulted astrologers when he had public appearances to make sure
that it was safe for him. The
history of astrology is an extensive one. Astrology can be dated all the
way back to about 3000 BCE. Astrology records are found in china, Babylon,
Egypt, Persia, and Arabia to name a few. One of the most famous
astrologers who came from Egypt was Claudius Ptolemy. He was the earliest
Egyptian whose astrological forecasts are still available today. His works
are actually the basis on which astrology is practiced in the western
world. Another astrologer was Al Hakim. He was Persian and is most known
for his prediction of the birth of Jesus. Greeks and Romans were greatly
influenced by astrology. Hippocrates taught astrology to his students so
that they could help people with illnesses and know when the most critical
days of the illness occur. Today,
astrology isn’t used as much to predict events, but it is more focused
on the human nature. People use it to discover themselves and their
personalities. The zodiac is now divided into twelve parts called houses.
The twelve signs are then divided into two groups of the masculine and the
feminine signs. The six masculine signs are Aries, Gemini, Leo, Libra,
Sagittarius, and Aquarius. The six feminine signs are Taurus, Cancer,
Virgo, Pisces, Scorpio, and Capricorn. The personalities of people with
the masculine signs are known as being full of energy and blunt. The
feminine signs are known as being more reserved and being in control. |
