Senior Spotlight: Matt Ashtiani

Matt Ashtiani is quite an interesting individual. One might even say unique. When I told Matt that he had been chosen as January's Senior Spotlight, he took off his shoes and started moon walking across Mrs. Stucken's classroom. If that's not unique I honestly don't know what is. It's people like Matt who can bring an instant smile to your face. That's not the end of it though, his wonderful personality is just one of his many great attributes. He's charming, intelligent and an overall great guy. It would be hard not to get along with someone like Matt because he has such an outstanding personality

With such a great personality one has to wonder what an individual like Matt plans to do after high school. The answer is plain and simple. He hopes to attend Cornell where he plans to study International Relations. "I always wanted to be a lawyer, but I love to travel so International Relations seemed like the way to go." Matt's G.P.A. is 4.0 and he is ranked 29 out of a class of 237 which places him in the top 12%. Matt has been actively involved in ESHS's extra curricular activities all four years. He was chosen by the yearbook staff as Senior Editor-in-Chief of The Golden Eagle which is a very high honor. He was also elected Vice-President of the student body which is another high position. Matt also helped organize Coronation as part of his Junior class duties.

When asked about senior year so far, Matt replied, "Senior year has been remarkable. It's been so much fun, and I'm so glad that so many of my high school dreams have come true. I became vice president of the school and editor-in-chief of the yearbook. I made a new group of friends, and I'm still best friends with the same people from middle school. Most groups of friends break up, but ours managed to stay together which is awesome." Matt doesn't have one particular high school memory because he says that every time he was able to make someone laugh, it became the best part of his day. So one could say that making people happy has made high school quite memorable for Matt.

Family is a very important part of Matt's life. He is extremely close to his parents and has a great relationship with his older brother Ali. If Matt could think of the one thing that drives him most to succeed, it would have to be the support and inspiration that his family gives him. "They would always tell me to do whatever I want but just be the best that I possibly can." Matt is optimistic that his future will be filled with wonderful opportunities. No kidding, with a personality like that he will probably go quite far. Matt is truly a great part of the class of 2002 and pretty much anyone would say that high school certainly would not have been the same without him. Thank you Matt for making our high school years so memorable.
