Ms. Morran

Since the end of last year, Ms. Morran has been a student teacher studying the teaching ways of Mrs. Clemmer.   When Ms. Morran received a call from Mrs. Clemmer to come teach at ESHS for the 2001-2002 year, she jumped at the chance and is now a great addition to our school.

While Mrs. Morran attended Notre Dame Academy she enjoyed playing basketball and did her best in school.  She wasn’t very strong at Algebra and even failed the class in the ninth grade.  English came a lot easier to Ms. Morran.  She had a few of jobs including working at Orange Julius, being a part of the UCLA copying staff, and even a guinea pig for the University of California San Diego (UCSD).  Later Ms. Morran attended UCSD but dropped out after seeing the number of students that attended classes.  Years later, she began to attended West Los Angeles College.  While there, she greatly enjoyed algebra.  After becoming a tutor for some of her schoolmates she started to realize that maybe teaching was what she should become in life.  After all, it was in her blood. Many of her family members were teachers.  Ms. Morran can still remember the satisfaction she felt after seeing someone finally understand what she was helping them learn.

Shortly afterwards, Ms. Moran decided to transfer to Loyola Marymount University.   There she met Dr. Michael Berg, a teacher that she thinks of as amazing and considers him to be her inspiration in life.  She very much enjoyed attending LMU because the help she received there was of great value to her.  Ms. Morran received her degree in mathematics, specifically in geometry, and immediately began looking for a job in that field.  Now, looking back at her previous math struggles and seeing all her accomplishments, she can proudly say, “If I can do it, anyone can!”

Ms. Morran doesn’t focus all her time on school though.  She also enjoys watching airplanes, taking walks along the beach, and reading.  Being a cartographer - someone who makes maps - also interested her throughout the years. Ms. Morran listens to many different types of music ranging from classical to rap.

Now that Ms. Morran has been teaching at El Segundo High School for a couple of months, she has fallen in love with it and wishes to stay here for as long as possible.  In a nutshell, Ms Morran is a very friendly teacher and genuinely cares about her students.  Hopefully she will remain with us for the rest of the year even though Mrs. Dotson will be returning some time in February, but for now, she leaves us with these thoughtful and inspiring words, “Let go of failure and you will have more room to learn.”
