Note:
In the interest of saving time and energy, I have decided to not write
much.
Laziness can stem from two
things, and two things only: one, you are slothful and just can't bring
yourself to move (in which case you are a sinner and are going to burn in
the fiery pits of hell), and two, you lack a good work ethic and just
can't bring yourself to move. Lazy
people make up more than 95 percent of the population, calculated with my
C grade math. I am proud to call myself one of the majority in that.
Those few, those happy few, who can possibly do an assignment
earlier than the day before it is due…well, I doff my imaginary cap to
you. I could never possibly
do an assignment early; it just goes against my nature.
My nature being that of a fat toad.
I believe in the old adage that
goes something like, "the knowledge that you are to be hanged in a
fortnight focuses your mind incredibly."
I find that my best work, actually nearly all of my work, is that
which is done the night before the due date.
This article, for example, is being written the night before
layout. But as it is a piece of fly-ridden, horse filth, it doesn't
quite fit in with what I was trying to say.
And now I only remember that what I was trying to say had something
to do with work, which causes me to shudder.
The
amount of work and the quality of the work that is assigned may partly
cause our procrastination and laziness.
If we were assigned better work that was anything more than silly
repetition or memorization, perhaps we would do it earlier.
But, then again, probably not.
Any kind of work causes me physical pain, and I doubt that it being
better than before would make it any more bearable.
I
have noticed that the times for procrastinating have been severely
shortened. I do not believe
that we are any longer given enough time to twiddle our thumbs idly,
dreading the night when we will finally have to begin working.
If given but another two weeks for each assignment I believe I
could even add whistling idly to my repertoire of things to do while not
working. Of course, there are some assignments where you do begin work early. These assignments, where you are given a week and a half to do 100 hours of work, cause even the worst procrastinator (me) to begin early. These assignments are called "projects" by some and something slightly more vulgar by others. I suppose the point of such "projects" is to teach you a good work ethic, not to teach you to purge yourself reflexively upon sight of a computer, due to staring at said computer for a 24-hour block. My mistake.
