Lead by coach Keith Cameron the Lady Eagle's softball team is looking forward to an outstanding season. The Eagles are looking forward to outstanding play from their many returning players including seven seniors. The seniors include Elizabeth Lopez, Alissa Eno, Lindsey Effler, Lauren Cancoy, Heather Escalante, Jerell Mauler, and Elizabeth Stiers. The Eagles also return with a strong sophomore pitcher, Jessica Doucette.
The 2002 softball season looks to be promising for the Eagles with a team comprised of many great competitors. Senior Heather Escalante or Freshman Catlin Heck play first base, Senior Elizabeth Lopez plays second, Senior Alissa Eno is at short-stop, Freshmen Amy Gloz or Adreana Vialobous are at third base. The outfield is made up of several outstanding athletes with Lindsey Effler at center field, sophomore Randi Bundy or Junior Jackie Wood at right and in left field, senior Lauren Cancoy, sophomore Ciji Rich or Freshman Jenna Coburn. Catchers, Jerell Mauler and Elizabeth Stiers are strong behind the plate. The Eagles are looking to Jessica Doucette, Sophomore Lauren Bargman, or Junior Rachell Villescas for fast accurate pitches that will lead the Eagles to many victories.
The Eagles began their season with the annual Hoover Tournament. In this tournament the Eagles had an upsetting first game loss placing this automatically in the consolation bracket, however, your Eagles fought back and beat all of the opponents that followed, winning the tournament's consolation bracket. In the tournament the Eagles faced tough teams from Valencia and Burroughs. The Eagles intend the repeat their league victory this season, but it will mean that the lady Eagles will have to put forth tremendous amounts of hard work. Sophomore Jessica Doucette states, "We have a big reputation and a lot of new players, so hopefully we will come together and win." Their first test will be on Tuesday, March 19 when the Eagles play their rival Mira Costa. The game promises to be a good one. Come out and support your Lady Eagles!
