Boy’s
tennis was scheduled to play west Torrance two times. Once at the West
Torrance home courts, and once at El Segundo Recreational Park. The first
match was scheduled for 2:30 pm at West Torrance. The Eagles had Christian Florido playing the number three position, Jean-Pierre
Badon playing number two, and Jason
Van Patten playing number one. This wasn’t the actual line up but
they put their strongest players in the back of the line up. This helped
the team deceive West Torrance, with their number three player playing
number one. The
first meeting, the team played very well, and the Eagles won by a close
counting. The second time the two teams played, it went in the opposite
direction. The Eagles, faulted many times in their doubles matches. Mostly
the doubles players lost their composure during big points. They were not
prepared for the strong doubles line up that West Torrance had.
Furthermore, Christian Florido and Jason Van Patten play was worthy of
awards in both meetings. Jean-Pierre was not present at the second match. Coach
Kirby Onaga explains, “The
doubles players were not focused during their matches. They goofed off in
practice and it showed in the match.” Boy’s
tennis also played Chadwick in Palos Verde’s. The match was scheduled
for 3:45pm at the Peninsula Racquet Centre. The team did horribly losing
in singles and doubles. Chadwick’s team is very impressive though, with
one of the best players in High School Tennis. All matches that have been played been played before March 20, 2002 were not league matches, and they do not count for a league record. The Eagles play a match every Tuesday and Thursday. Besides the other matches that are non-league matches. Every match is usually scheduled for a 2:30 pm start and a 4:30 pm end. All home matches are played at Rec. Park, while J.V. plays at the high school.
