Girl's Basketball

The El Segundo Lady Eagle's Basketball season has started out very well. The team is on its way to success, as they begin what promises to be a winning season. This year, the team's goals are to place second in League and to go to the CIF playoffs.

The first game of the season was on Tuesday, November 27. The Lady Eagles were very excited about their performance against a dynamic Valencia team. With several new and returning players, this season should be great.

Returning senior and Mc Donald's All-American finalist, Kelly Geis, started off the season very positively. With 27 points, including three three-point shots, and four assists, she will be a huge asset to the team. Britney Asher also promises to be another important asset to the team. She began the season by scoring eleven points along with having a strong rebounding performance. Coach Mark Doering expressed his satisfaction with Asher's performance, saying, "Britney is back on track from last year, when she scored 24 double doubles."

Samantha Squalls is a great contributor to the team. Although she is only a sophomore, Samantha is the starting point guard for the varsity team. Squalls has proven to her teammates that her age is not a factor. With ten points, eight rebounds, and eight assists in her first game she will be both a defensive and offensive force on this team.

Fans should get ready for some great basketball in the 2001-2002 season. The Lady Eagles will put on a good show this season. As Coach Doering said, "I'm just excited to work with this group of girls this year. They are hard workers and they will have a great season." Hard work and determination are two key ingredients that this team possesses.
