Girl's Basketball

The El Segundo Eagles Girl's Basketball team has been doing very well. They have two returning starters, Britney Asher and Kely Geis, who will be a huge asset to the team. The Ladies also have many new starters including Sha'Lena Claybrook, Nikki DeRosales, and Lauren Johnson. They have had several games this season, and have a very impressive record, with 8-11 as their overall record, and 1-4 as their league record.

Although the Eagles have been playing tremendously well, they have lost two of their key players. Samantha Squalls, the starting point guard has suffered from a knee injury. She has been replaced by Sha'Lena Claybrook, who is doing a great job, as well. Starting post player, Laura Parker has an ankle injury.

Senior Captain, Kelly Geis is doing astoundingly well, as usual. She has been averaging 27.7 points per game and 3.2 assists. Her school career is also very impressive. She has scored over 1700 points in her career as an Eagle, and over 200 three pointers to date. She scored an amazing 45 points in the league opener against Hawthorne, and has been one of the strongest assets to the team.Junior Captain, Britney Asher is also doing very well. She has averaged 13.5 points and 12.6 rebounds per game this season. She leads the team in rebounds, steals, and blocked shots. She had two triple doubles in a tournament in Santa Maria, and has been continuing her success.

Junior Sha'Lena Claybrook has been a major defensive threat. Claybrook has done an excellent job filling in for Samantha Squalls.Sophomore Nikki DeRosales has been the surprise of the season. She has really taken off, and her future in basketball looks promising. She has averaged almost 8 rebounds and 3 steals per game.Junior, Lauren Johnson has also been a huge asset to the team. She has done a great job playing post, and is improving significantly each game.

The Eagle's Captains Britney Asher and Kelly Geis are having a great season. Coach Mark Doering says: "Captains Kelly Geis and Britney Asher are both having tremendous seasons. We have a lot of young players on the team and they will benefit from the experience of playing with such talented Captains. Their leadership this year will help the team develop and be strong for the next two seasons." As the Lady Eagle's future is looking bright, they still have a few crucial games. On January 24, 2002 the Eagle's go up against Hawthorne High School. On January 25, 2002, they have a game against Torrance. Both of these games are at home, so come out and support our Lady Eagle's Basketball team!
