Wrestling

Move over WWF, El Segundo wrestling is here.  Boys wrestling has been a little small this season.  There were barely enough people to make one team, but that one team has really put their heart into it.  So far, the wrestlers are 3-3 in Ocean League meets and 2-10 in Tournament play.  Two seniors lead the way for our wrestlers.  Nine juniors back them up and two sophomores return for year number two.  Only one freshman is in this year’s crew, Conrad Curry.  Curry says, “It’s difficult being the only freshman on the team, but I can handle it.”

There are only two more matches left this year including the League Finals.  This year’s manager is Michelle Giangrande who will be backed up by coaches Eric White and Brent Verch.  Although this year has not been as good as previous years, the team is an improving.  Junior Sean Batton says, “Our squad started kind of shaky, but I believe were improving.  There is also time in the future for improvement.  I think were getting better physically and mentally.  I can’t wait to return next year for my final year and encourage anyone that believes they can do this to come join next year.”

The remaining two matches are Ocean League meets.  The first is at Mira Costa at 5 pm tomorrow, January 24 and the last match against South Torrance here at the North Gym on February 6.
