On April 11,2002, the Lady Eagles took to the water. They knew that the daunting challenge of facing Mira Costa's girls was soon to come. As the first Varsity relay was swum, the ladies picked up second and third. This was a very big accomplishment because the amount of points given to first is about the same as the amount of points that is added between second and third places. Sophomore, Katy Lawlor, and freshman, Jennifer Berry turned in great performances, racking up more points for the team with a second-third finish. Senior, Courtney O'Donnel got the win in the 50 freestyle, with a stunning time of 26 seconds, while freshmen Jeanette Gant picked up the third place finish, and Kate Proto got fourth. Junior, Kamille Kemp, and Daily Breeze Player of the Week, got her usual first in the 500 free, as well as first in the 100 backstroke turning in awesome times. Junior, Kourtney Schepman got second with another great finish in the 500 free. Nicole Parsenoult and Desiree Gant continue to improve in the 100 butterfly, and did very well against Mira Costa. As the last race was swum, and the ladies heard of their victory of 86-84, El Segundo's favor, everyone was very excited. Since the Mira Costa meet, the ladies had two unfortunate losses at both Peninsula and Redondo, however, there were many great times from many of the lady Eagles. The ladies will face Redondo, Beverly Hills, Peninsula, Mira Costa, Culver City, Santa Monica, and Torrance for League finals. All of the girls have high expectations of making league finals at League Preliminaries on May first. League finals will be held on May third at Mira Costa High School, so come out and support the swim team! |
