The Lady Eagles has had a great season, boasting two victories over their league rival Mira Costa. The Eagles and the Mustangs have had an on going rivalry for many years. It is a great accomplishment for the ladies to beat the Mustangs two times in a single season. Their first meeting with the Mustangs was at Mira Costa. The ladies fought hard and were able to beat their opponent 3-2 by the end of the seventh inning. However, when the Mustangs appeared at the El Segundo Bobby Sox field, they came to win. With Costa's star senior pitcher Samantha Lavino and the powerful Eagle's pitcher Richelle Villescas the game was tied 0-0 at the end of seven innings. The ladies fought through the first half of the eighth inning with great defense from Elizabeth Lopez at second base and Alissa Eno at shortstop. In the bottom of the inning Jessica Doucette, who had been out with an injury, stepped up to the plate and hit the ball deep into right field, batting in a triple. Next to the plate was Senior Jorell Mahler. Jorell hit the ball into right field bringing Doucette in to score winning run the Eagles. The final score of the game 1-0 Eagles! The Eagles have also had success against other opponents this season. They have played extremely well with victories over South Torrance winning, 11-0. Richelle Villescas exhibited excellent pitching and was also very strong at bat. The Eagles also had a strong win over Santa Monica, beating them 3-0 with hard hitting by Sophomore Randi Bundy. The Eagles suffered a loss against Redondo, suffering a heartbreaking 5-4 result. However the Eagles played hard with great performances by Senior Lindsey Effler and Senior Heather Escalante. The ladies look to win league for the second consecutive year, but it will take a victory over a tough Penninsula team on Friday, April 26. If the Eagles play to their full potential they are sure to have a victory over the Panthers. |
