Boy's Water Polo

The El Segundo Boys' Water Polo team finished their season in second place in the Bay League, behind defending CIF champion Mira Costa. Although the Eagles fell to Mira Costa last month, they bounced back and won every other league game. Last week, the Eagles faced Peninsula. The coaches expected the match to be very close, but the Eagles came out strong scoring the first three goals. The score after two quarters was 7-2 Eagles, 12-2 after three, and the final score was 14-2. Senior goalie Carlo Diy had a great game with nine saves and five steals from Peninsula to prevent them from scoring. Senior Pat Volosin led the team with five goals. Senior Riley Brady scored three, senior Kevin Wright scored two, and Junior Brian Kohler also scored two. Wright also finished the game with two great assists. Seniors Ryan Martin and Ryan Berry provided speed and great defense against Peninsula that kept them to two goals. Last Tuesday the Eagles also beat Santa Monica, another league victory. Last Thursday the Eagles defeated Redondo at home, 14-3. For eleven seniors, Ryan Berry; Riley Brady; Carlo Diy; Chris Giles; A.J. Lester; Colt Lusby; Ryan Martin; Ryan Sharp; Pat Volosin; Ryan Walton; and Kevin Wright, this was their last final appearance at the El Segundo Plunge.

The Varsity team has completed a exceptional season, finishing with an overall record of 20-6 and a league record of 5-1. "When we first started working together all I asked was that the boys measure their success by their individual improvement," says Coach George Harris. "The team's improvement has been phenomenal, and they are all winners in ever sense of the word! I couldn't have asked for a better season." The Varsity Team is headed off to CIF after a second place finish in league and a phenomenal season!

The JV and Frosh-soph teams are both very successful as well. As of last week, the JV record was 12-2, after a victory over Redondo. The frosh-soph team, headed by Coach Shane Wilson, finished third place in the Chadwick Frosh-Soph Tournament, with victories over Culver City and Beverly Hills. The frosh soph team finished the season with a 14-2 record. They still have the Ayala Tournament left to play.
