Girl’s Volleyball Looks Toward Post Season Play

The El Segundo Girl's Volleyball team has had an outstanding season. Lead by Seniors Natasha Nuygen, Amber Korner, Gemma Gaudio, Anne Foster-Keddie, and Alissa Eno, the lady Eagles gave outstanding performances in each of their games. Finishing up the season tied in third place with South Torrance in the Bay League, the Lady Eagles must win their next game against south Torrance to be able to play in the post season CIF playoffs.

In the last third of their season the Lady Eagles preformed well in spite of set backs that could have had a negative impact on their season. One of the Eagles most valuable players, Senior Amber Korner went in for knee surgery before the regular season was over, making it impossible for her to finish out the season. Amber was a key asset to the team, but the Lady Eagles rallied back after this loss, and continued to play great.

The Eagles faced many tough opponents toward the end of their season. The first was South Torrance. The Eagles had a disappointing loss to South earlier this season, and were now ready to take South on. The Eagles played hard in the first two matches of the game, but fell short in both cases. At the beginning of the third match, the Eagles decided to put together all they had learned to defeat South Torrance in the next three straight matches. "We played the worst we have ever played, and the best we have ever played in that game." Said Senior Natasha Nguyen. The Eagles continued their winning streak with an easy defeat of Redondo in three straight matches. Next, the Lady Eagles were to face the tough Peninsula team. This game was the last home game of the season and the Eagles are ready to take on the Panthers. However, Peninsula did not show up for the game due to a scheduling conflict. The Eagles then were made to play the Panthers the following day. "We were not as pumped as we were before…so we weren't ready for them when we played them." Stated Natasha Nguyen. The Eagles lost to the Panthers in four matches, but played a hard fought game. The ladies ended regular season play with a win against Culver City in three straight matches, securing their third place finish in the Bay League.
