Girl's Tennis On the Road To Success

The Lady Eagles Tennis team has had n of much improvement this year. They are lead by Seniorsa seaso Rose Jang, Kelly Moore, Randi Gunder, Alex Heckaman, and Kathy Villalobos. The tennis team has also shown much improvement from Juniors Jessica Weigngarten, Sue Ive, Jackie V, Danielle Ruedas, and Sophomore Lauren Bargman.

On Tuesday, October 9, 2001, our Lady El Segundo Eagle's tennis team played Culver City. The Eagles played two great games, however, fell short. The first match was lost 8-10. The second match was a struggle. The Eagles pulled off a 9-9 tie. They fell short, because the officials took the second score, leaving the Eagles with a disappointing loss. Coach Kirby Onaga stated: "After the first matches against Torrance and Culver City I knew the rematches would be important as far as league standings.” The second time around against Culver, we were disappointed because we did improve but lost by just a few games." Coach Kirby also said, "the Eagles tennis team is improving greatly." Top doubles team Alex Heckaman and Cathy Villalobos have added to the Eagles success in doubles, sweeping Culver.

Rose Jang has also been a huge asset to the team by improving the singles competition. The goals of the team are to beat the teams in the "middle of the pack," such as Torrance and Culver. The Lady Eagles are a much improving team, but are falling just short. Come support the ladies on Thursday when they play Mira Costa.
