The El Segundo Girl's volleyball team is looking forward to a great season this year. The Lady Eagles have many returning players who promise to give outstanding performances as the season progresses. With the leadership of Seniors Amber Korner, Natasha Nguyen, Alissa Eno, Anne Foster-Keddie, Gemma Guadio, and Junior Amie Abad the ladies are sure to bring home many victories this season. Senior Amber Korner states, "This year is going to be our best ever. We have a lot of returning players and we are looking forward to many victories." Ranie Smith and Rick "Angel" Arsee coach the Lady Eagles. The tremendous support and teaching of these two coaches are expected to lead the Lady Eagles to victory. The first match of the season was played on Friday, September 7 in the boys gym. The ladies fought hard and played aggressively against Chadwick. Unfortunately, the ladies came up a bit short in the end and lost to Chadwick in three hard fought games. The Lady Eagles then prepared for a game versus Long Beach, but were disappointed when it was cancelled due to the unfortunate events that transpired in New York City and Washington D.C. The Lady Eagles then rallied back last Thursday and Friday in the Carson High School Tournament to beat both rentwood Inglewood in three straight games, putting the El Segundo team into the winners bracket for Friday's games. The tournament was cancelled for the rest of the weekend, but will be rescheduled soon. The next game the Eagles played was the first game of league play. In this game the Eagles faced their hardest opponent, Mira Costa. The Eagles gave Mira Costa the best game that they had seen all season, but came up just short of a victory, losing the game in close sets. Great performances were given by all of the Lady Eagles. With the talent and enthusiasm that the Eagles have shown throughout the beginning of their season, their goal of making it to CIF playoffs could very well be realized. |
