The Berth of a New Compilation
By Neelofer Lodhy, Managing Editor

After two years of silence, anticipation, and grief, The Used have come back with a new compilation album (CD/DVD) and a sneak peak of a new song, soon to be featured on their new album coming out this April. The compilation was released on February 6, 2007, so it is good as new.
Just to fill you in, The Used has been going through a lot of changes. With the success from their 2004 release In Love and Death, to headlining the winter warped tour Taste of Chaos in 2005, and going global after that. The Used had everything going for them. It was just recently around October of 2006 that the band had announced that their beloved drummer Branden Steineckert was out of the band. It was a very huge deal for the band since Branden was the one who founded the band, and put them together, and unfortunately left many fans grieving about the situation. There have been many rumors as to why he left, but the reason is still unconfirmed, and for now left a mystery. Maybe when the band is ready, they will be able to talk to us about the situation, so we’ll just have to sit tight till then.
For now, they have a replacement drummer for the time being. When The Used went on tour in 2005, they toured with a band by the name of New Transit Direction. Their drummer Dan Whitesides is filling in for now. There are rumors saying he is now the official drummer, but The Used themselves are still pondering the situation. However, the band did wish Branden the best of luck in whichever career he tried. Seems their luck has worked considering now he is drumming for his favorite band Rancid. So it seems that they are all on good terms, but Branden is nowhere to be found in the dvd except for the performance sections.
The band now consists of only Jeph (Jepha) Howard (bass), Quinn Allman (guitar and backup vocals), Bert McCracken (lead vocals), and possibly Dan Whitesides. This dvd is amazing. It is packed with almost anything you can think of. It has a documentary on the band about them touring on their headlining In Love and Death tour from ’04-’05, The Taste of Chaos tour, and what the band has been doing since. The dvd also includes interviews/background information on the three remaining members, a live show from Vancouver, Canada, a sneak peak of the band writing their new album, and three videos all which also contain the making of the videos.
The CD included in this amazing compilation, consists of their songs recorded live from the Vancouver, Canada show. The CD contains the songs Take It Away, Listening, I Caught Fire, The Taste of Ink, Blue and Yellow, Im a Fake, Hard to Say, and Maybe Memories. Even though the CD only contains 9 songs, they all sound amazing, and The Used even incorporate a song New Noise by the band Refused into their song Maybe Memories. It sounds amazing!
This CD/DVD compilation has the whole package. It’s full of surprises, so be careful and make sure not to watch it around your parents! Unless you get the edited version of the DVD also available online. The DVD is a real treat because it gives you a sneak peak of the new song by The Used called Handsome Awkward. From what guitarist Quinn Allman says, supposedly its about lead singer Gerard Way of My Chemical Romance, since Bert McCracken and Gerard have been feuding the past couple of years but, we’ll see. Catch the band on this year’s 2007 Winter Warped Tour Taste of Chaos featuring bands like Evaline, Aiden, Chiodos, Saosin, Senses Fail, 30 Seconds to Mars, and of course the headliners, The Used. It’s a show you don’t want to miss!  For more information, visit The Used at www.myspace.com/theused, www.theused.net, or www.tasteofchaos.com.
