Girls Basketball Does Well
By Dylan Coplin, Sports Editor

The girls basketball team has had a phenomenal season thus far. In the pioneer league the Eagles finished 6-4 ranking, 3rd. The team squeezed into CIF playoffs by defeating Centennial in the last league game, 64-58.
The last two league games for the Eagles were both victories by a fairly large margin. Senior Taraneh Lipscomb had a groovy game against Lawndale. She put up 22 points and 17 rebounds leading the team in both categories. Not only did she grab all the boards, she added two assists. With another great game, senior Candy Cleverly put up a season high 16 points and 11 rebounds. Along with her best league game she also contributed 3 steals as well as junior Abish Valdez with 5 steals of her own. Valdez too had a great night with 8 rebounds and 2 blocks. The game ended with the Eagles up by 3 points, 56-53.
The last game in league was the most important for the Eagles. They had to win in order to play in the playoffs. They entered league play after having a poor preseason. They prepared themselves for the best game yet. Senior Leanne Wilder played like she wanted the win more than anything with 12 points, 9 rebounds, and 2 great steals. Lipscomb played well too, recording 18 points and 13 rebounds. Valdez had a great game too, putting up every category possible, 9 points, 8 rebounds, 3 blocks, 4 steals, and 5 assists. These three players led the team to a great win and a spot in CIF. The final score was 64-58 in favor of El Segundo.
In addition to going far this year, Senior Danny Serrano says “ they should do well next year.” The girls’ had their first CIF game last Saturday against Covina, who is 25-1 this season. Good luck this in the playoffs and next year!
