Boys Tennis Finally Breaks Streak
By Varun

The Boys Tennis team has played nine games and thus far, it’s
a season of ups and downs. The Eagles had their first win, breaking
a thirty-eight game losing streak. The victory took place against
Bishop Montgomery.
With an overall record of one win and eight losses, the
Eagles have not played as well as could be hoped. A league record of
zero wins and five losses are coupled with the last two
disappointing losses of the very promising doubles team of
sophomores Andy Steir and Andrew Gen, who had previously swept
Bishop Montgomery. “Andy and I are currently in a slump, but soon we
will overcome and conquer,” stated Andrew. This “slump” causes a
concern for Coach Onaga. On the other hand, senior Max Tonner
demolished his opponents, sweeping the singles sets against Bishop
Montgomery. This, as well as the victory won by the doubles team,
accounted for our first win since 2005. In regards to this Max says,
“I did it for my school and the future of the program, as well to
ensure we will have an even better team in the future.”
The team, however,
is “young, and though the road is going to be rough ahead, we have
good reason to have hopes for the rest of the season” in the words
of Coach Kirby Onaga. The Eagles have yet to play the Beverley Hills
team, though we have played Santa Monica, other favorites to win the
league. Another reason we can look forward is that our last loss was
eight to ten against Torrance, which has been our closest loss so
far, meaning we have reason to hope for a win soon. All said, the
Eagles have reason to look forward to what our team may accomplish,
so go down and root for our team.
