Movie Reviews
By these fine girls

Lucky You by Emma Smith

The movie Lucky You, set in Las Vegas, hit theaters recently. In the movie, Eric Bana plays Huck Cheever, son of the legendary poker player L.C. Cheever, played by Robert Duvall. Huck has exceptional skill at poker, but lets his emotions run away with him when playing his father. Huck is known as a blaster, famous for winning big and throwing it all away in the next hand. Huck's ability to read people allows him to defeat opponents and avoid relationships. Billie Offer, played by Drew Barrymore, begins a relationship with Huck. The sympathetic, naïve girl from Bakersfield is trying to be a singer. The Poker World Series looms ahead and the pressure on Huck increases. As Huck begins to drive Billie away, he realizes that he has to start playing cards the way he lives his life and live his life the way he has been playing cards. As a whole the movie was rather predictable. The film was an interesting combination of poker and of emotional drama.

The Ex by Kim Keener

In the newly released comedy, The Ex, starring Zack Braff and Amanda Peet Tom Reilly (Braff) is forced to stop slacking and get a job since his pregnant wife, Sophia, has gone on maternity leave.  After Tom is fired from his job in New York he is forced to work for his father-in-law.  It is there where the situation goes from bad to worse because he has to work with a handicapped colleague who wants to steal Tom’s wife out from under him.  The professional critics tore this movie apart, but I honestly did not think that the movie was as bad as they sad.  The Ex is an okay movie, I was not overwhelmed to see it again but at the same time I would not say that the movie was a complete waste of time.

Spiderman 3 by Lena Hedayat

Spiderman 3 made a fabulous addition to the series. The movie was exciting, fast paced, and never leaving you bored. Peter Parker got a taste of what it felt like to be on the bad side when Venom overtook his personality. Meanwhile, it turned out there was more than one man involved in the shooting of Peter’s Uncle Ben. Flint Marko, who was soon to become the Sandman, had been the actual one to fire the gun. His decision was hasty, and something to regret. Peter came to realize he needed to overcome his anger, and not let it takeover what was important. So it was at the top of a bell tower in a church that Peter managed to get rid of the Venom. Unfortunately, the Venom fell downward onto Eddie Brock, Peter’s competition for the position of Spiderman’s photography at the Daily Bugle. Will they end as friends or foe? I loved the movie, and even though it didn’t quite live up to my expectations, I suggest you go see it.
