Softball
By Evan Parker, Staff Writer

Our softball team has once again reached CIF after a successful season. Their record in Pioneer league was 7-3 and they are expected to play well during CIF. Last year softball made considerable progress in CIF and nearly advanced to the finals, losing the last game of their playoffs to La Reina. This year it looks as if they have a good chance of succeeding in their playoff hopes. With a little determination and hard work, we could have a championship team in the making.

The Eagle’s last league game took place at Recreation Park against Palos Verdes, which resulted in a loss. On Friday, May 18 the team will play against Mayfield High, marking their first venture into the CIF postseason. The team has had 5 full days to practice, and hopefully the game will result in a win and a continuation of the Eagle’s season.

Overall the Eagles have had a good season, winning 17 of 26 games, scoring a total of 128 runs for the team with just 37 runs against the team. The team’s home record is 8 wins with 2 losses, with an away record of 3 and 1, and at a neutral location the Eagle’s have an even 6 to 6 record. In their conference the team has won 7 games with 3 losses.

Coach Keith Cameron had his work cut out for him in the CIF playoff games. In the first round they faced the challenging Mayfield.  But with a competent team at his hands, he could very well give El Segundo Softball a run at a successful playoff season.
