Flushed Away
by Kai Van Dusen, Staff Writer

Aardman Animations and DreamWorks Animation have combined forces to make the movie Flushed Away.
The film, released November 3, is the story of Roddy St. James, a rat that lives in the lap of luxury. One day, while his owners are away and Roddy is having a great time alone, a drainage problem brings Sid, a dirty, annoying sewer rat, into the house. As the day presses on, Roddy is increasingly bothered by this nuisance so he decides to trick Sid and flush him down the toilet but in the process gets himself flushed down the drain and into the sewers of London. In the sewers he meets Rita, a rat who works as a salvager, and asks her to bring him back to his home. In return he agrees to pay her handsomely in order to help her family. In the meantime Roddy gets entangled with The Toad who employs the help of his French friend Le Frog to kill Roddy and Rita and retrieve a cable that they stole from him so he can complete his evil plot to kill all of the rats in the sewer.
The movie is less childish than you might expect, like many animated films coming out there is childish humor mixed with comedy that only an older audience will understand. The animation is also phenomenal. DreamWorks has combined their flawless computer animation with Aardman's award winning clay-mation style.
The movie is deserving of the good ratings and it is a good movie to take your little brother or sister to. Take them, or just go see yourself if you appreciate the animation and its style of humor that appeals to children as well as adults.
