Mr. McClune
by Lena Hedayat, Staff Writer

This year several new teachers were welcomed here at ESHS. Among the many was Mr. Jim McClune, who teaches accounting, business math, computer applications, and keyboarding.  He likes teaching these subjects because they have value after high school, throughout your entire life. You will probably find yourself in many situations where these particular subjects come in handy. Many students always ask why they have to learn this, or that, and Mr. McClune can give you some good reasons. He has also taught at Culver City High School and St. Bernard High School. He was inspired to begin teaching back in college when he had a part time job coaching a middle school football and basketball team. “I enjoyed it so much that after I graduated, I went on to get my teaching credential,” he says. Mr. McClune actually hopes to be able to help coach some of the Eagles teams here. He dislikes grading papers, like every other teacher. He says he likes to teach high school age students because “Younger students scare me,” he admitted. If you’re wondering what made Mr. McClune come here to teach, it was because as a coach his teams came and played here many times. “I was always impressed with the facilities, the staff and the students,” he compliments.
When asked about his favorite subject while he was in school, Mr. McClune says he loved English because he always had interesting teachers, who always gave out hard, but enjoyable assignments. He attended Loyola High School, an all-boys Catholic School in Downtown Los Angeles. Mr. McClune loved his school, except for the fact that it was so far from home, for he grew up in Westchester, not very far from here. If you’ve seen Loyola High, then you will agree that it’s a beautiful school, and the boys who get in are pretty lucky. As a college student, Mr. McClune earned his Bachelors degree at Loyola University (LMU), and his masters at Cal State Dominguez Hills.
During his time off, Mr. McClune likes to go camping, visit relatives, and do home improvement projects. He says the most dangerous thing he’s ever done was go rafting on some, “crazy-dangerous white water rivers in Canada, California and Colorado.”  One of the silliest things he likes to do is to baby-talk with his nieces and nephews. His best feelings occur when a student who is doing poorly begins to understand the material, and starts to get better grades and easily pass exams. The people Mr. McClune looks up most to in life are his parents, who are his heroes.  His favorite holiday is Thanksgiving. He likes it because there isn’t much shopping involved, but it brings his whole family together. Mr. McClune adds in spirit of the season that he’s most thankful for,”
My family and my health.” Welcome Mr. McClune!
