TeenAge Sex Scandal
by Liana Magliocco, Staff Writer
Why
is it so important to get attention by the opposite sex? And why is
"cooler" to be a slut instead of someone with morals. About 38% of
all high school students are currently sexually active. Yet in this
day and age instead of being upset by crude labels, people embrace
them. Since when is it a good thing to be easy?
Each year as the new freshman come to
our school, it becomes more and more apparent that the "easy girl"
persona is there. The mini skirt and the low cut tops are out in
full swing. This doesn't mean that the upper classman aren't doing
the same, but it's just starting at a younger age.
It's cute to have a crush on a guy,
but come on, have some respect for yourself. If a guy doesn't
appreciate your brains as well as your body, then your going to have
some messed up relationships. Remember people don't always look this
way so the more focus that's put on showing the most skin, the more
guys will only see a girl as skin. Then as people grow up they will
only remember you as a slut.
Rumors are another fun thing. People
can talk a lot of smack about anyone they want. You may be the
cleanest wholesome person but do look a certain way and your
automatically labeled. Is that fair? As the years go on there is
more pressure to have a boyfriend or girlfriend and to loose your
virginity first, but why?
This trend has become increasingly
popular, and for the teens that don't have sex right away "like
everyone else" they are looked down upon because apparently having
morals is "un-cool". If everyone were shooting up heroine, would you
do it? Do kids loose their because everyone's doing it? Or is it so
you can be cool? Well consider this every year 750,000 girls ages
15-19 will become pregnant and about 113,000 of those girls live in
California.
So when your worrying about being the
first one to "give it up" think about this, 88% of pregnancies to
teens under the age of 17 are unintended because the younger the
teen is the less likely they are going to use protection. And
because of this 50% or more of teenage pregnancies end in abortion.
Now given that it's your life, but
when you're a 16-year-old single mom raising a child, is that really
fair to the kid?
So on the opposite side of the
spectrum why is it that if a girl is seem talking to a guy, that
automatically means they are hooking up or that their going out? And
for guys, why is it cool to be hooking up with more girls, but when
a girl does it, she is trashy?
There is no easy way to approach sex,
either you're labeled a slut or you're not cool. It's all personal
preference. So when the time comes for you to loose your virginity
(or you already lost it) think about how everything changes
afterwards, and how your actions will affect you.
