Volleyball Throws Their Opponent off The Court
by Dylan Coplin, Sports Editor
The Lady Eagles volleyball team has started preseason play just as
expected; great. With only a few lost seniors from last year, the
team this year is looking better than ever. Leading the team this
year is senior Tara Hovland and junior Melanie Palmer as captains.
Hovland started the game against
Palos Verdes well, with some huge saves and spikes. The eagles too,
came into the game ready and with a quick lead. With powerful
hitting and great teamwork, the eagles kept a solid lead throughout
the first match. Senior Angela Covington played a crucial role as
well with strong serves and precise spikes. Palmer played evenly as
well; she had great sets and passes that assisted the hard hitters
to spike as well as they did. The whole eagle team served very well,
with only a few errors and points due to bad serves. The eagles
definitely gave there all; and won the first match 25-22 over Palos
Verdes.
In the second match, Hovland
completely took over the offense. She overpowered all of PV's
attempts to block her and saved a great deal of balls. The eagles
also kept the PV score quite low with some tremendous blocks from
Palmer and Covington. Senior Jo'Vine Tulikihihifo stepped up later
in the match; aiding the eagles with blocks, spikes, serves, and
power. The eagles obviously dominated the match and ended up
completely winning 25-12.
The team this year is very well
rounded, and works well together. Volleyball is a team sport, and
the volleyball team shows that better than most teams here. And even
though, the individual skill of each player is strong, the team play
is much better. With the top players we have now, we will surely
dominate in CIF and easily reach the finals. Good luck!
