PTSA News

ESMS PTSA meetings are held on the third Tuesday of each month, with the exception of December, at 7:00 P.M. in the school library.

PTSA VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY
The PTSA has one position that has not yet been filled.  The ROAD (Reach Out Against Drugs) Representative attends the monthly ROAD meetings (every third Thursday at 4:30 P.M.), informs the PTSA on this organization’s happenings, and helps Peer Assistance with the Red Ribbon Week activities.  For further information, Brenda Colbert can be reached at colberts5@sbcglobal.net

PTSA Letter

The Parent Teacher Student Association (PTSA) gives both supplementary funding and volunteer assistance to the students, teachers, and administration of El Segundo Middle School.

This group of volunteers coordinates many school events.  Some of these events are the New Student Orientation Barbecue, the Back to School Teacher Breakfast, the Parents on Campus program, Red Ribbon Week, Run for Education, and Teacher Appreciation Week.

Last year, proceeds from fundraisers enabled the PTSA to contribute numerous gifts to our special school;  these gifts totaled over $35,000!  They included field trip bus transportation as well as complete or partial funding for each of the three grade level field trips themselves:  Outdoor Science School, Body Worlds, and the Museum of Tolerance.  Another funded grade level event was the seventh grade DARE program.  Finally, the students enjoyed the special assemblies, particularly the superb Quintet assembly.

The PTSA also provided many classroom/school necessities.  In addition to the very practical binder reminders that were given again to every student, a new sports clock was presented to the physical education department after the previous one, sadly, had displayed its last running time.  Some of the other donations included wireless remotes, Alpha Smarts, films, a set of 350 literature books, maps, atlases, and software for social studies, math, and art.  Once again, the students were treated to morning juices and snacks so that they would be ready to take their STAR tests each of those four days.

The PTSA also sponsors the Student part of the PTSA, the Leadership Counts Club.  The club, which is led by Kristi Zemen, meets every Friday at lunch in Room JM103.  The students have fun while learning leadership and mentoring skills by participating in the school activities and organizing community service projects.  All students are welcome!

The PTSA is proud to support our great school!
