ABOUT THE PARENT BOARD
The Parent Board is made up of parents and caregivers of the students of the El Segundo Unified School District Preschool. Any and all parents are welcome to attend these monthly meetings. The role of the parent board is to help support the school in fundraising efforts and to provide parents with information or answers to questions they might have about the preschool. Parent board meetings are held monthly (usually on Tuesday evenings at 6:00), and take place at the preschool, either in the Board Room or the Teacher’s Lounge.

One of the major roles of the parent board is to organize the annual pancake breakfast fundraiser, which is held each year in December. The money raised from ticket sales for the breakfast, along with raffle ticket sales and a silent auction, goes toward school improvement efforts and purchasing of school materials. Last year, the 4th annual breakfast raised over $5,000.00, with those funds going toward the construction of the Science and Discovery Center that is located along the South side of the preschool’s entrance.

While the pancake breakfast is a major piece of what the parent board helps organize, the coming months will be filled with lots of activities. We will be trying to organize a few other small fundraisers throughout the year. We will also be putting together and maintaining a roster of all of the students and parents at the school.

The final meetings of the year will be focused on the transition that many of our students will make to Kindergarten. We hope to help make that transition as smooth as possible. We will also spend time planning an end of the year celebration for all of the students.

As you can see, the role the parent board plays is that of supporting fun and exciting efforts at the school. The meetings are informal and provide a nice space to chat with other parents about what is going on at the school.
