MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Dear Richmond Street Families,

I would like to encourage you to join us in the 14th Annual Run for Education on Saturday, March 4th.  Registration is $20 or you can get the Family Discount of $10 per person when you register three or more people.  You can also register on the day of the race.  The race begins in front of the high school at 8 AM.  The Kids’ Fun Run begins at 9:15 AM.  All proceeds go to our schools.

March 2nd is Dr. Seuss’s birthday.  We’ll kick-off our annual Read-a-thon for students in grades K – 2.  All Richmond students can wear their pajamas to school and bring a Dr. Seuss book to celebrate.  Richmond Street students may also volunteer to participate in Hoops for Heart during March.  This nationwide fundraiser for the American Heart Association also teaches students about healthy habits.  Look for a letter that was sent home with each student for more information about this important event.

Finally, March 27, 28, and 29th are minimum days.  We have scheduled Spring Conferences on the 28th and 29th.  Your child’s teacher will contact you if she feels a conference is needed.  You may also contact your child’s teacher to schedule a conference if you have concerns.

Sincerely,

Dickie Van Breene

Principal

CONGRATULATIONS, MRS. MILLER:  Mrs. Miller and her husband had a baby boy on February 22.  We wish them all the very best.

Part time instructional assistants needed district wide!  If you have 48 semester units post high school and are interested in working with students as an instructional assistant please fill out an application on the elsegundousd.com website or at the district office between 7:30 – 4:00 Monday – Friday.

Visitors on Campus:  State law requires all visitors to check-in at the office and to wear a visitor’s badge.  If our staff stops you and asks you to go to the office for a visitor’s badge please don’t be offended.  We are looking out for the safety of all of our students.

Traffic News:  We continue to look for ways to keep our students safe during arrival and dismissal.  We ask that you think about arranging a different location for pick-up with your child to help us alleviate traffic on Richmond Street.  We will continue to request that the El Segundo Police Department patrol the area.

5th Grade Noon League Basketball:  The 5th grade is in the process of forming teams for a noon basketball league.  We are fortunate again this year to have the help of Mrs. Sleeth’s husband.  Mr. Sleeth will be coaching and refereeing along with our 5th grade teachers.  We would love volunteers to cover some of the games.  If you are interested in helping please inform your child’s teacher or the office.
