Birthdays are very special in Room 214!  We will be celebrating each child’s birthday on the school day closest to the date.  After we sing “Happy Birthday” to your child, he/she will be King or Queen for the day.  He/ she will have a special birthday crown to wear and get to be the day’s special helper.

This year, the district policy regarding birthday celebrations has changed.  In order to promote nutrition and a healthy lifestyle, Parents will no longer be able to provide sweet treats for their child's birthday.  If you still want to provide something for the class to enjoy as a birthday treat, you may donate a Birthday Book to the class.  This is a wonderful way of exposing children to the beauty of literature while at the same time building our classroom library.  Here’s how it works:  on your child’s birthday, he/she may bring in a book to give to the class.  Inside the cover, you can write a brief dedication.  We will read the birthday book as part of the birthday celebration.  Another option is donating computer software or learning games.

Please remember that you are not obligated to do this.  You may find, though, that the concept of a child sharing his/her birthday by being a giver rather than a receiver is a good one for the development of an individual.
