Discipline Policy

CLASS RULES:

1. Be kind.

2. Be safe.

 3. Do your best.

DISCIPLINE PROCEDURE:

1.    Children are rewarded positively when they follow the rules.  We “catch them being good.”

2.  We have green and red “faces” in our classroom. All students start on the green face everyday.  That means they have decided to make “good choices” that day.  If a student makes the choice not to following one of our rules in the classroom, they will move their clip to the red face, indicating “bad choices.”  Students can earn the chance to get their clip back on the green face my making good choices.  The clip can go back and forth many times in a day.

3.    Class rules are continuously reviewed.

4.   I give incentives such as stickers, pencils, small toys, etc. These are kept in our treasure box.

5.   If negative behavior continues, privileges (like free choice, center time or play time) may be taken away.  The teacher and student will always discuss what the problem is, why it happened, and a better choice that the student could have made.

6.   If disruptive behavior becomes a pattern, the child will visit the office to see Mrs. Van Breene.  (The little ones have a special place in her heart, and she really works with them to make sure they will be successful at Richmond Street School.)  Mr. Plotkin, our new Vice Principal may also conference with students from time to time.
